Dunloy, while never what you'd call a bustling metropolis, is an eerily silent place this St. Paddy's day... just about the entire village has decamped to Dublin for the final of the All Ireland Club Hurling Championships, Dunloy Vs. Birr... seems every time they make it to the finals they play birr...

I just had to go down the road to my Aunt's house, where my Uncle Frank was in distress trying to set his video to tape the match for my Cousin Jairlaith and I was sent to fix it... turned out he'd lost the remote, and couldn't change the channel from BBC1, so that buggered the whole venture! We're gonna tape the match for him now instead... it's showing on TG4... the irish language station... what fun [/sarcasm]

Dad is baking... making black forest gateau... yum :)

I swallowed my butterflies and checked out the OU website... the courses are very expensive...

I managed a ficlet! A bit of spit and polish still to do and then I'll post it here later... shan't be posting it to the group, beacuse... well... it's odd... and also I'm not ready to go back to that yet.

Tuna sarnies for lunch I think... and then I have a creme egg in the fridge :-D

Ooh, well let's see the story then.

OU

Which OU?

I'm assuming not www.ou.org, which is the American Union of Orthodox Rabbis, which makes sure that food is kosher. Unless becoming a mashgiach, or kosher food supervisor, is your secret dream job. Making sure meat is properly de-veined and salted and making sure canning companies use only non-animal lubricants is certainly good stuff, but it's usually not the lifelong dream of a young Irishwoman.

It's not the University of Oklahoma, www.ou.edu, because it seems too far away. The wind may come sweeping down the plain, often right behind the rain and over the corn that's as high as an elephant's eye, but what would bring you to Oklohoma? American Indian Studies, I guess. Maybe you can be the only Irish mashgiach with a master's in American Indian matters. You could be a kickass paper on comparitive food culture.

Also: in Oklahoma, who would your "honey gal" be to watch the birds make lazy circles in the sky?

After a Google search on the matter, there's also www.ou.ac.uk, which has a number of classes in language and social sciences, but a cursory search does not reveal any programs in Northern Ireland or Ireland proper, just partnerships with programs in England, Scotland or Wales somewhere.

But it is closer than Oklahoma, and therefore your search for a "honey gal" will be easier.

Lol Akhmed, yep, it's the third one, the Open University... specialists in what i believe you good folks in america refer to as correspondance courses? They do take people from NI, because the courses are run by phone and email... just the job for a little hermit such as myself :-)

Correspondence Courses

Ah, the venerable correspondence course. If I had $1400 lying around, I'd take one in gunsmithing.
